Christopher Hitches on Free Speech:
Since social media took off, and politics became more divisive and polarised (or did I imagine that?), it seems there is an argument raging about free speech. The far (alt) right often pushing for total free speech (no limits), and people on the far left saying there should be many limits (such as trigger warnings when teaching a new book, Sleeping Beauty is believed to be sexually harassed for being kissed without permission while asleep by some).
Are some of us becoming the archetypal snowflake (Jonathan Haidt believes limiting free expression too much leads to us becoming too sensitive to ideas and words – The Coddling of the American Mind). A man was arrested for teaching his pug to do a nazi-salute, he claims it was a joke. Even if it was in bad taste, should be have been arrested? Where is the limit?
